The Zimbabwe Peace Project (ZPP) pledges to live up to and to continue advocating for government to seriously consider being party to the International Convention for the Protection of All Persons from Enforced Disappearance.
The International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, commemorated annually on 30 August, falls at a time when Zimbabwe is bemoaning the state of public security. The country has recently been going through a wave of peaceful protests that have been met with police brutalising and harassing protesters.
ZPP is gravely concerned that Zimbabwe is still experiencing enforced disappearances that are a crime against humanity. Families of victims of this heinous crime are themselves insecure as they are not sure if the same crime will be committed on them.
